Unlike many other IRS forms, you can’t fax Form 8822-B to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Instead, you’ll have to physically mail it to the IRS. The Department of the Treasury gives two mailing addresses for Form 8822-B. You’ll choose one based on your previous business location.

What Is Form 8822-B?
Form 8822-B is used by organizations to notify the IRS of changes to their mailing address, physical address, or responsible party. This form is used by businesses, nonprofit organizations, and other entities that need to keep their contact information up-to-date with the IRS. If the IRS doesn’t have an accurate address on file for your business, you may miss out on important correspondence, such as refund checks or other tax matters.
If there are changes to your organization, such as a different mailing address, physical location, or a new responsible party or reporting agent responsible for managing the organization’s finances and tax obligations, you should file Form 8822-B to ensure the IRS has the correct information on file. Keeping the IRS informed of these changes is important for receiving timely correspondence, such as notices and other tax-related documents.
You can download Form 8822-B from the IRS website and mail it to the address listed above or in the form’s instructions. Note that Form 8822-B is not for updating personal addresses and is different from Form 8822, which is used by individuals and partnerships to report changes in their mailing addresses or the location of their business. Be sure which one applies to you before you submit it.
You have to file Form 8822-B within 60 days of the change. However, doing so doesn’t replace the need to update your information with other federal and state agencies, so make sure to contact them separately as necessary.
Form 8822-B Instructions
Before and after you fill out Form 8822-B, you’ll also need to fill out other address forms related to your new business address.
1. Notify the Post Office of Your Change of Mailing Address
When your business changes its mailing address, you also need to inform the United States Postal Service (USPS) so mail sent to your old address will be forwarded to the new one. You can update your mailing address with the USPS by visiting its website or visiting a local post office. Make sure to do this in addition to filing Form 8822-B with the IRS, as these are separate processes.
2. Fill Out Form 8822-B
Filling out the 8822-B form involves providing your organization’s legal name, EIN, old and new mailing addresses or business locations, and information about the old and new responsible parties, if applicable. After completing the form, an authorized representative of the organization should sign and date it.
3. Update Your Address and Direct Deposit Information With Your Bank
In addition to notifying the IRS and post office of your organization’s change of address, you’ll need to update your address and direct deposit information with your bank so your financial transactions, such as deposits and withdrawals, continue to be processed correctly. Contact your bank to find out how to make these changes.
